چکیده

This study we focus on the morphological-based image segmentation problem, based on the watershed pre-segmentation with color-alone feature. Based on the color mathematical morphology (MM) method, the similarity measure of merging process between neighboring pixels and regions can be performed as a ranking problem. To avoid the creation of a false color and false segmentation, a hybrid-ordering algorithm instead of vectorized and marginal ordering approaches. Unlike other ordering methods firmly the black color as the reference color to sort pixels, it creates the problem that the scope of the distance measurement is not optimum. We present an automatic reference color selection (ARCS) scheme to obtain the segmentation results more line with human visual perception. Based on a new quartile-based region merging approach, the threshold determination reacts less sensitivity to the context variations of images. To evaluate the system, four quantitative indices are utilized to compare it two typical segmentation schemes in the experiments. It shows that the result of the proposed method is robust to segment the image.

A Basin Morphology Approach to Colour Image Segmentation by Region Merging

The problem of colour image segmentation is investigated in the context of mathematical morphology. Morphological operators are extended to colour images by means of a lexicographical ordering in a polar colour space, which are then employed in the preprocessing stage. The actual segmentation is based on the use of the watershed transformation, followed by region merging, with the procedure bei...

Unsupervised 2d Multiband Histogram Clustering and Region Merging for Color Image Segmentation

A segmentation method for color images is presented in this work. A morphological unsupervised 2D multiband histogram clustering provides an initial segmntation of the image. Region information is then used and a novel technique is introduced to simplify the Region Adjacency Graph by merging candidate regions until the stabilization of a ”good” segmentation criterion. Merged regions are refined...

Color image segmentation using morphological clustering and fusion with automatic scale selection

Please cite this article in press as: Lézoray, Recognition Lett. (2008), doi:10.1016/j.pat In this paper, a color image segmentation method considering pairwise color projections is proposed. Each pairwise projection is analyzed according to an unsupervised morphological clustering which looks for the dominant colors of a 2D histogram. This leads to obtaining three segmentation maps combined by...
